The WAO Executive Committee would like to thank all those involved with the Continental Qualifying Tournament on 16/17 March 2024 held at the Auckland Archery Club range.
Competitors from Fiji, New Zealand, Samoa and Tonga attended the tournament with a total of 14 athletes. Palau was also going to send athletes, but were unable to obtain visas in time for transiting through Australia.
Two World Archery quota spots for Paris 2024 – one male recurve, one female recurve – is what the archers were shooting for.
Saturday morning started with unofficial practice, followed by official welcomes from Cushla Matheson (World Archery Development Officer for Oceania), Didier Gras (Vice President World Archery Oceania), Peter Russell (Life Member ArcheryNZ) read a message from ArcheryNZ Life Member & Patron Bernie Fraser and Councillor Josephine Bartley addressed the crowd. Arne Jensen (Tonga) recited the Athletes Oath and Logan Andrew (CoJ) the Judges & Officials Oath.
In the afternoon the 720 ranking round was then held in some strong testing winds which made some shots a lot harder for the athletes.
Sunday morning started at 10.45am with the first of the day’s matchplay. This was to be the beginning of some very tight and tense matches.
In the end, both quota spots went to New Zealand.

1st Ben McLean NZL

3rd Arne Jensen TGA
